"Do It and Apologize Later" I ask her if she thought the city fathers would let me do a project that I had dreamed up and she said "Do it and apologize later!" Her name was Eva and over the years she told me a lot, but the one that stayed with me was "Do it and apologize later". She has been a real cornerstone in this Osage town of Hominy, Oklahoma. I first met her when fishing with my father, as Dad said "shes got a good fishin pond ". Eva would meet us at the gate on her ranch and her and Dad would spend as much time visiting as we did fishing. Heck I would rather set and listen to her tell her stories than fish any day! Instantly I liked her, there were a few passions in her life and she made sure you knew what they were! She loved her horse, her ranch, her triplet sisters, her Mother, but most of all I think Eva loved Hominy, Oklahoma. As Chamber of Commerce secretary for over twenty years she has been the one person that knew how everyone & everything worked. She had the talent to talk everyone into anything and make them believe it was their idea. Never looking for anything in return personally but always giving time, money or support to any project that she felt was for the good of Hominy. Twenty-seven years ago Eva talked me into showing my artwork at the first Arts & Crafts Show Hominy hosted. Still in high school and surprised that someone noticed I jumped at the chance. As the years passed I became the one she ask to be a judge at the show. Later she would get fired up over my "newest" project and offer support as needed. I always knew I could depend on her to be honest and involved if she thought it was right for Hominy. Once Eva asked a city manager if the city would help with a particular Chamber project and I heard him say "I might as well say yes Eva because you wont let it alone if I say no!" Eva passed away December 2nd. And Im concerned for this place she called home, Hominy, Oklahoma. Theres always that one person that does more and gives more. For the life of me I cant think of anyone that is capable of being the entity that Eva was. In fact I cant think of any group of people that would measure up. How does some one become an Eva? Im not sure in this day any one has the desire or the passion to love a town enough to give it as much as Eva gave Hominy. Her death was sudden and I was upset that she had left so suddenly and then I smiled as I remembered her words "Do it and apologize later!" Eva Im proud you were my friend .I will miss you .many will miss you! Sharing The Journey |
