Sharing the Journey

November 2004

“I AM AS I WILL BE”

“The scent of the smoke filled the night air as the songs were sung and the stories told. The drum was passed around the fire and it became clear the creator was in our presence. We are here not to conquer Mother Earth and all the miraculous creations, but to care for and embrace what we have been blessed with. All of the creatures are a necessary link to the next for the survival of all. As the smoke from the pipe passes from image to image we are reminded of their part in the journey of becoming an Elder. The buffalo as provider, the eagle and his connection to Creator, turtle as Mother Earth and dragonfly to remind us, not everything is as it seems. Home and its importance of who we will be, crow as messenger, wolf strength of family, moose the responsibility of elders teaching the children and horse to carry the burdens. As life goes and Elders teach we are shaped into what our Creator intended us to be. To the Elders that have shared in my journey and to my Creator I say “Thank You” “I AM AS I WILL BE” and as you intended.”
